The first step in being happy is being aware of how happy you are at this given moment.
Below is a short questionnaire from the book “Happy for No Reason” by Marci Shimoff. This questionnaire will measure your current happiness level – dependent not on circumstances but perspective. So why is this important? By bringing awareness to this state of perception, you can better understand if your set point is where you want to be… or gain insight into how you can increase your level of satisfaction.
The Happy for No Reason Questionnaire (M. Shimoff, 2008, pg. 23-24):
Rate each statement on a scale of 1 to 5:
1 = Not at all true
2 = Slightly true
3 = Moderately true
4 = Mostly true
5 = Absolutely true
1. I often feel happy and satisfied for no particular reason.

3. I feel alive, vital, and energetic.
4. I experience a deep sense of inner peace and well-being.
